How do I add a favorite story/author/recommend a story to my account?

On the story’s article page (where the summary and reviews are shown), at the top, you will see three buttons: “add favorite”, “add author”, and “recommend”. When clicked, the story and/or author will be added to your profile under the corresponding heading.

You can also add “favorite author” by clicking on the link (“Add to Favourite Authors”) when viewing the member’s profile.
How many stories/authors can I add to my favorites list?

You can add up to 10 each.
How many stories can I recommend?

You can recommend up to 5 a month. Once you recommend a story, you will not be able to recommend it again, to allow other stories a fair chance.
What’s the difference between Favorite Stories and Recommended?

While both are used to comprise a section in the Top Stories list, the stories you choose as ‘Favorites’ will permanently stay identified on your profile as such. Recommended stories will be reset every month.
How can I add my friends into my profile?

The easiest way is to go to the profile of the member you wish to add and select “Add to friends”.
How do I show my birthday?

Go here (the same page you entered your birthday in for age verification), and under date of birth, where it says “Show birthday to visitors”, select ‘yes’ in the drop down menu. This will then allow, when your birthday comes around, for it to be shown on the main page in the birthday box.
What’s the GeoMap?

Based on where your ISP is located, this map shows (by red dots) the location of AI members. GeoMap does not indicate which member is associated with which dots.
What’s the GeoStat?

Using the same information as the GeoMap, the GeoStat breaks up the location of visitors by country, which you can view by number of hours.
What’s the Calendar?

A new addition to AI, the Calendar shows (by day) the birthdays of members (who select it to be shown) and the new stories that are published. You can view these by hovering of the day with your cursor.
What’s the Personal Menu?

It’s an optional area that displays custom information (such as lists, URLs) on certain pages like the home and View Account. You can edit or deactivate it anytime you wish by going to this page (note: must be logged in).
What is a theme?

A theme an easy way to change the appearance of the site—i.e. the pictures/colors—instantly. AI has several pre-made themes available for member’s use.

There are separate Site Help categories that addresses themes: Site Themes and My Theme.
How do I change themes?

You can change your themes by going to the ‘Change Theme’ page. Select a theme in the drop down menu—to preview it, click “preview”. If you choose to keep that theme, click “update”. Make sure you click ‘update’ to finalize the change.
How do I activate/deactivate forums/PMs?

By going to the 'Site Display' page (the same page as 'Change Theme'), you can turn off the forum and/or PMs. If you're a community member (i.e. post in the forums) or an author, you must have PMs enabled.
What is a signature?

A signature is a quote, joke, links to your webpage, etc. that are attached the bottom of a post in the forum. When using the quick reply box, your signature does not appear unless you write [addsig].
What are the author/story tracking features?

These options, which both can be found at the top of any story article (next to the "Favorite Author/Story/Recommend" links), will work the same as the adjacent counterparts. For example, if you select "Track Author," on your profile, under a subheading of "Tracked Authors," will be a link to the member’s profile. The same will go for "Track Story"--the stories you choose will go under the subheading "Stories Tracked."

You can only select "Track Story" on the story article itself, while the "Track Author" option appears on both the member's story article and profile.
How am I alerted that a story/author I'm tracking has updated?

If you are tracking an author and they upload a new story, adds a new chapter to an existing story or creates a downloadable PDF version of a story you will receive an email alerting you.

If you are tracking a story and the author uploads a new chapter or creates a downloadable PDF version of the story you will receive an email alerting you.

you can also goto New Chapters. At the top of the page, there are three new subheadings: "New Stories by Tracking Criteria", "New Chapters by Tracking Criteria."and "New eBooks by Tracking Criteria." How do I select who can see my personal location map?

The default setting is "nobody." To change it to either "friends only" or "members only", go to your Personal Menu and click update.
How does the personal location map know where I am?

It derives from the location of your IP address (most likely where your ISP is located), not your physical address (such as your home, school, or library).
How can I tell what stories I have read?

You can find stories you've recently read on the Story Tracking page. It lists the author, title, and the reading status. If you have finished reading the story, it will say "Read Again." If you haven't, it will list the chapters not read.

This page also indicates which stories you have rated/reviewed/recommended.

(Note: Must be logged in to view link. Also, only stories you're logged in while reading will be listed on this page).
On the Story Tracking page, what do the empty boxes/Xed boxes mean?

If you hover over the boxes with your mouse, it will show you exactly what it indicates. The first box is if you rated the story, the second is if you reviewed the story, and the third is if you recommended the story. If the boxes are empty, you have not done that particular action. If the box is Xed, then you have.
