Story Manager - Answers
What is the story manager?

This is a feature for members only. It lists the stories you have uploaded and whether they are waiting to go through the submission process or are already accepted. It is here you can check for new reviews and votes, add, delete, or edit chapters, change formatting, edit the summary, or delete the entire story article.
How do I submit my story?

Please refer to both the submission guideline and the Story Submission section of Site Help.
How do I upload a chapter?

The option I am referring to is under “Please select the chapter and location of the file you wish to upload.” Click on Upload. Select the corresponding chapter in the first drop down menu. Then, browse to select the file from your hard drive (making sure you’re selecting an accepted file format), and click the Upload Chapter button. The uploading process will take varying amounts of time depending on the file size. You will receive a notice whether or not the process was successful.
What does it mean “(html stripped)”?

If your file contained any html tags that are not allowed (basically anything other than bold, italic, or underline), they were deleted by the system. Your story should still be intact, minus the unacceptable tags.
What does it mean when it says “application/msword”?

You have tried to upload a Microsoft Word document, which is a format AI does not accept. AI only accepts .txt and very basic html.
What does “unknown error” mean?

You have most likely tried to upload an unacceptable file format. Also make sure you selected the chapter you are trying to upload in the drop down menu.
How do I edit the chapters online?

Make sure you have a chapter uploaded. If you do, click on the linked chapter number(s) for the story, which will take you to an online editing box. If you make any changes, make sure to save—if you close the browser without saving, the changes will be lost.
It’s not letting me upload my file from my hard drive. What do I do?

Before you make a forum topic or PM an administrator, there is an alternative method available that allows you to upload chapters. Click upload in your story manager and notice the second option available (under “Please select the chapter you wish to create”). Select the chapter you want to make, and it will create a blank chapter you can edit online. This will allow you to cut and paste your story from your file that won’t upload.
How do I delete a chapter?

Click on the chapter numbers to go to the online editing, and at the bottom left-hand corner is a button that says “delete”. Make sure you really want to delete it as there’s no way to recover the chapter.
I uploaded my chapter but the format’s off. It skips every-other line! How can I fix it?

You most likely already have your story word-wrapped (hit enter after 70 characters). AI automatically word-wraps documents, but you can turn this off by going to the notepad icon and selecting “raw” formatting instead of the default “paragraphs”.
What is “mark complete/mark incomplete”?

This lets readers know the status of your story. Your status, should you not select either, will be “Unknown.”
What is spell check?

As the name suggests, it's a feature on the site that allows you to spell check your stories.
How do I spell check?

In your story manager, click on the chapter number links, which will take you to the live editing. In the bottom right hand corner is a button that says spell check. This will open a new window and give you statistics: the number of checked words, the number of misspelled words, and the percentage of words ‘correct.’ (Hopefully you all get good marks. ;)
Why does it say that I misspelled words that aren’t misspelled?

As with any online dictionary, it is a program and not a live person. For instance, it won’t catch a misused “too/two/to” or “their/they’re/there”, but it will tell you that you spelled a person’s name wrong. That can’t be helped. Not all words used will be recognized by the dictionary.
Does this replace my editor/beta reader?

*gasps for breath* Heavens no. As I mentioned above, it still will not catch all errors. Please keep your editor/beta readers employed!
What's the notepad icon?

This is the notepad icon: . In your story manager, when you click on it, you can edit your summary, rating, change a few preferences, make your story AIMod downloadable, change the format, or delete your story.

This is an important author tool and most members do not know it exists.
What's the blue and white icon next to my submission?

That's the AIMod symbol, meaning you physically selected your story to be downloadable by all members who use the AIMod. If you haven't selected your story available to the AIMod, you will not see this symbol.
What is the graph feature on my story?

This link is available on each of your stories and will show you a graphical representation of the number of times each individual story has been read.
What is the extended graph view and how do I see this?

The extended graph view will show you the breakdown of the summary/chapters reads for the selected year. You can view this by clicking on the graph feature and then clicking on the graph itself.
When are the graphs updated?

The story graphs are currently updated the first Monday of the month. The graph scale is broken down into 53 weeks.

The first Monday of the New Year is Week 1 and each subsequent week follows after that.
