Chapter 1

Legacy in Gemstone

Crystal Tokyo: sixth Dynasty

New Juuban

So much has already happened and I fear we're not going to get used to the pace anytime soon. First, the dreams from early childhood about our ancestors, then the emergence of our powers, then to top it all off our guardians, whom were none other than the senshi of old, beings now residing in a place known as The Crystal Nexus.

---

Last spring a girl with crystal odango had visited Mariko; mind you, I would have thought her crazy if I'd not already been visited by Rei-kami-sama, although I'd only assumed Rei was a kami at the time. I wasn't far off, and besides, Rei was well on her way to Goddess status despite her refusal even to consider the possibility I was right.

I was blown away; fancy that, me mentored by the legendary Martian Princess Sailor Mars.

The ancient senshi had temples dedicated to them, along with the four original Shitennou who had also gone to the Nexus yet their key temples were major military bases as well filled with cadets devoted to their respective houses that of fire, air, water and earth. Seemed these days, the young candidates designated "the warrior class" were young senshi and Shitennou that would help defend New Terra and the other worlds in our star system from any threat that decided to happen along.

We had discussed this at the Sakura Jinja's guestroom and we learned their powers were not as developed as the original senshi monarchs, or ours. We'd not even trained at all, as we were all just your average girls and never saw a senshi in our lives except on holo-imager or other pop cultural and historical sources until we were paid a visit by our guardians.

I never dreamt anything like this could possibly happen to little me, a junior Neo-Gothic Lolita Songbird and recording artist, Sailor Mars…you kidding. I pinched myself for a week after recovering my Dango kite and adding a new cut proof chord; that was five years ago now.

The photo geek, you could have knocked me over with a feather when I heard that she was Sailor Venus. Oh yeah, this just got weirder and weirder.

Ishini Kasuga was the hottest girl on campus, and always the center of attention on the school grounds and off, but she was shy as hell, a reluctant prima donna. If a boy came within an arm's length of her, she'd go into her shell, hence the nickname, Oyster Girl.

I thought the out there chick, the cleverest nerd and maker of the neatest dolls, made the perfect Sailor Mercury; Nagai Fumie worked at the local flower shop weekends and loved to joke around. She thrived on taking the stuffing out of the people we all found a pain in the butt at the academy, hitting them with witticisms that went over their heads making them appear even more stupid than they already were. Oh, and she had a mean right hook if you got her mad enough as many of the boys in the class ahead of us can attest.

As for Sailor Jupiter, no, she wasn't an electrician's daughter, but she had shorted out the prefecture during a thunderstorm by testing her powers, as she was bored at the time, all the power modules slipped into some kind of post quantum torpor as the newscasters called these. Yeah, freaking weird. Makoto-sama had pulled her up for that, but when those two started talking about boys, as Makoto visits us regularly from the Nexus, she's nice and all but, you can't shut them up. They're like peas in a pod.

I swear the crystal woman will hit on any boyfriends we might get, so I'm keeping any I have some day under wraps. How can I compete with a Goddess?

Sikito Hoshi, on the other hand was shy, but not as quiet as Kasuga and loved cats, and had two of them, Yosei and Duryea, black and white respectively. She loved celebrity stuffies and I found that cute, the fact she was the senshi of thunder was the perfect counterpart to her unassuming persona.

Sailor Saturn, a girl by the name of Toyoshima sienna I'd met on a trip to Mount Fuji and Fuji II. The twin volcanoes were beautiful, a huge lake had formed over time within the crater of the older of the two and I would go fishing with the girls, and or with mom during the Cherry Blossom Festival and the joint Terran and Orpheusean Fertility Celebrations, of which I was too young to partake.

Fuji II was the more spectacular especially at night when the ash and fire lit up the sky behind the gleaming crystal city; it was so pretty. I loved it.

Sienna was with her brother and father, each members of the New Terran Geographical Society and very knowledgeable on tectonics and other cool things.

I had taken an instant liking to the girl who was dark as coal, her long wavy coppery gold hair and matching eyes, a trait from her Orion mother who was in the hospital giving birth to a new sister.

When I heard her tale of how she'd encountered the violet crystal Soldier of Destruction who revealed herself as Sienna's guardian, I admit it scared me a little. Powers lay in shadow most had no idea about; I didn't until she told me of the shadow wraiths that tried to suck the Star Seeds of dying patients near New Hiroshima out of their bodies. As the state of the art, hospital built on a site of a temple dedicated to a wrathful kami was located and destroyed in a war many thousands of years past.

The entities and its minions were somehow awoken and Saturn dealt with them with deadly precision by using her new Glaive. I was glad she was on our side.

The girl who ended up becoming Sailor Uranus was a fun girl, expert at sports, and gymnastics her specialty. Kuroki Elisa-Mae ran a karaoke boutique with her parents. She and her twin sister, Kuroki Marina-Jade, Sailor Neptune was an avid reader and played keyboards like those that nobly I'd ever heard, she was great.

The girls, each with musical skill were fun to jam with most weekends. Eloisa was a great base guitar player and Roshoko, her boyfriend, had an impressive singing voice. We had a great sound and I loved sharing lead vocals with him. I joined a band to expand my musical range as I liked all kinds of music, old and new, especially experimental and A-rock and pop, the A for ancient, or Ice-Rock etc., the reference to the Big Freeze obvious.

Tsuki Amerita worked at a warehouse in the old quarter; she lived on the premises, and was quiet, but far from shy. Remote but no snob. Amerita just didn't talk that much unless she had something to say.

She collected model planes, restored old timepieces and ran a dance club; it was Ice Rock, and pop and we'd gotten top billing whenever she held a special youth day or night where live performances were the order of the day.

Amerita, also a sculptress, had an impressive gallery on the top floor where she worked, slept and lived. She had it all: kitchen, lounge and huge living area, and guestrooms. We all wanted to stay and spend time getting to know her, and she promised we could do that and when not meeting at the Jinja, we could meet her at her loft, as she called it.

The work she did was pure awesomeness, especially of mythical beings, and of course, the historical senshi.

"I was working on this piece, a cross between my ancestress, Setsuna and Persephone, from Greek myth when she scared the crap out of me. I almost peed in my panties when Setsuna appeared beside the statue. She… made of crystal and my image of her cast in pink granite; I wasn't sure which was more artful. Well she examined my work with a critical eye, and then told me I was a senshi princess, the next generation. We all know how weird that feels. She touches my brow and voila, we're at the Time Gates, and I am in a skimpy black silk getup, a fuku showing off more skin than I thought I would ever wear outside my bedroom or the beach."

"I like my fuku, guess it works but in the cold weather, I'm yet to experience that," I said, and she laughed, shaking her head of violet locks that fell pest her butt.

"Time, yeah, I read of her," Fumie said, eyes bright as she listened. "Please continue."

"I meet this tall guy who hands me the Garnet Rod telling me it's my turn to guard it, and so he and his wife, Amydarainia work with me to look after the gate and I don't mind as I never lose any time, I mean, really! I just stop things where I left them, and come back whenever I want. How cool is that!"

"Oh, maybe you could stretch vacation time for us woman!" I said, and she giggled, "Maybe make our ice-creams last longer, just give me time and I'll hand you a list from all of us, that is, if that's okay!"

"If you're good ladies," the nineteen year old said, and I felt she was so chuffed to meet us all, her hair shone like strands of shimmering crystal. Amerita was flesh and blood like us, it was just the fact that a lot of us came from mixed parentage off world, and had some unique genetic traits. She Ersa Minor, an asteroid field with a few million colonists that worked there and mined ores for their home world in the Rigal Star system.

I was shopping in the plaza when I bumped into another student that had recently joined the academy. She was with three other girls, and as it turned out she was Sailor Vesta, a redheaded girl with green eyes, Kajuji Kiti was a publisher's assistant for Crystal Tokyo Dream, one of the largest publishing houses on the planet, and she was a copy editor and a darned good one at that.

Matsumoto Tamiko owned a second hand costume shop, and was a bubbly fun person to be with; her chocolate hair bound up in a ponytail or braided gave her a pixie-like demeanor. She was Sailor Ceres.

Inokuma Miki was Sailor Palla, and a primary school teacher, and part time university student, and had this weird habit of speaking in the third person. Kitty was forever correcting the sky-blue haired girl but would eventually sigh, shrug, giving up as we all sat at Crown Café eating rice balls and enjoying our shakes.

The last of our troop was a raven-haired girl who was born within the mysterious Dragon Kingdom, a multi linguist, who was Sailor Juno, her name Riesa Aya.

Aya talked very fast, and yet her diction was so good it wasn't hard to adjust to her rapid speech. Aya was also an accomplished flutist and we got along like a house on fire. Agreeing to join our band, Crystal Orb, she added a wonderful new dimension to our sound.
